It’s Coming:  Business Browser News Enhancements!
Significantly expanded news publication collection
We will be significantly expanding our news publication collection with the addition of Moreover Technologies content.  Our news publication collection will be increasing to over 21,000 publications, allowing us to provide even more coverage of the global business events occurring on a daily basis. A large portion of this publication expansion will focus on on-line news sources and business blogs, providing coverage for the ever-growing number of events that are not covered in traditional print sources.Enhanced news searching and tagging capabilitiesOur search and tagging capabilities will be enhanced with the introduction of a new news indexing environment, which will significantly increase the accuracy of business events and companies we are able to track in the news.

What product functionality is changing as a result of this release?
In order to implement these enhancements we are replacing the news environment in Business Browser with the same environment that supports news in iSell-based products. As part of this effort we will be modifying or ending support for Business Browser functionality with low adoption across our user community.  A customer ready email and list of affected customers is available and attached for communicating these functionality changes to any impacted users.

Support for the following functionality will be modified or ended as a result of this release (screenshots of the updated Basic and Advanced search screens are included at the end of this email):

  • Case Sensitive Searching – the ability to specify case sensitivity for free-text searches in Basic or Advanced News Search will no longer be supported. The Case-Sensitive option be removed from Basic and Advanced news search interfaces. Any saved search that currently contains this search parameter will continue to exist but without case sensitivity applied to the search criteria.
  • WITHIN Boolean Operator – the ability to specify the maximum number of words between two terms in a search using the WITHIN Boolean operator will be replaced with the NEAR Boolean operator, which allows users to specify that two terms occur within close proximity to one another but does not allow them to specify the maximum number of words between two terms. Any saved search that currently contains this search parameter will automatically be replaced by NEAR.
  • AFTER Boolean Operator – the ability to specify the order of terms in search criteria using the Boolean operator AFTER will no longer be supported.  Any saved search that currently contains this search parameter will continue to exist, but will return search results that contain both terms anywhere in the document.
  • ATLEAST Boolean Operator – users will no longer be able to specify the number of occurrences of a term in search criteria using the ATLEAST Boolean operator.  Any saved search that currently contains this search parameter will continue to exist, but will return search results that contain the term in the document one or more times.
  • Boolean Operators for Structured Terms – the ability to specify the Boolean operators used to join structured terms will no longer be supported in the Preview section of Advanced News Search.  Any saved search that currently contains this search parameter will continue to exist, but the Boolean operators used to join structured terms will be connected with OR within the same taxonomy type and with AND across taxonomy types, as is done in iSell News Search.
  • Company and Abstract Field Searching – the ability to search using the Company or Abstract fields will no longer be supported, as these fields were only attributed to a small set of news and article content.  This change will result in users receiving a larger set of relevant documents that match their search criteria.
  • News & Article Content Distinction – News & Article content will no longer be supported as separate content sources, as this differentiation was historically based on the vendor providing news content and this division by vendor no longer holds true.  To address this situation, News and Article content will be collapsed into a single category called News. All product areas that referenced ‘News & Articles’, will now simply reference News. This change will result in users receiving a fuller set of results that meet their criteria.
